Recommended Links www.VeteranVoice.info Latest News - Contractor Changes For LTD and Vocational Rehab Announced at a conference in Ottawa, 24 Sep, effective Oct 2009 (correction - not 09 Oct), LTD and vocational rehab will no longer be conducted through SISIP, specifically contracted to ManuLife. Confirmation of this change, including the implementation date, has yet to be received. Come Oct 2009, we will all know. It has been indicated that LTD and voc rehab will be controlled directly by VAC utilizing the services of Voc Rehab Canada, or perhaps another tender . One interesting note is that this new provider is not strictly CF service related but caters to a wide spectrum of 'clients'. Whether this is an advantage or a greater disadvantage to the medically-released CF member remains to be seen. Maybe a VVi subscriber who has more information and/or expertise in this area could provide comment. From the info gathered it appears that for those that have been on SISIP prior to the effective date, you will be grandfathered and remain under the SISIP LTD and voc rehab policy. VVi Website and CSAT FORUM Upgrades In case you haven't been on the VVi site lately, www.veteranvoice.info and its subsidiary forum, Canadian Soldier Assistance Team (CSAT) are going through upgrade changes. The main aim of the upgrades is to make the website and its forum easier to use by VVi subscribers. Time and money will dictate how long the complete upgrade will take. It is hoped that by the end-November and with the VVi staff saving their pennies, the website upgrade will be done. However, the setup and transfer to the SQL server database is expected to take longer. Developments so far have included the purchase of a MS SQL 2008 server database. As money becomes available a database converter program will be purchased to transfer the current old database over to SQL 2008. The end result will include the retention and transfer of more database and archival information to a central location. This hopefully will translate into the subscriber going to only one website page to draw on, manipulate, display and print results of their queries. The GUI interface with the SQL 2008 will be simple and quick, allowing all subscribers, no matter the level of their browsing skills, to use the database. Please be patient tough, giving the webmaster time to build the tools. A draft copy of the new CSAT Forum is now available for members to review and register. It is located through www.VeteranVoice.info either through the English or French Bulletin Boards. On entering VeteranVoice.info (VVi), look to the left-hand navigation bar and click on 'New CSAT Forum'. The forum will open in a new window to allow members to continue to view and read articles on the VVi site.
The new forum provides better controlled security, it is more interactive, allows members to control their own profiles, permits the community to run itself and not subject to MSN's rules and slow downs, allows for easier changes and corrections to be made to the forum, provides more tools and a chat room, etc.
I ask the membership to let me know if they prefer the old forum or this new one by using the poll on the CSAT Forum. Any additional features that subscribers would like should be sent to the webmaster. It is hoped that in a short time the new CSAT Forum will be transferred to the VVi owned SQL 2008 server ensuring even greater security and confidentiality for subscribers and contributors.
